A34 Chieveley/M4 Junction   The Contractor Costain had a specific requirement for a feature groove instead of the normal ridge pattern. This request was economically resolved by new timber moulds that recieved an extra two coats 'Formlac' polyurethane. This combined with the less aggressive process of using self-compacting concrete maintained the excellent finish normally associated with GRP or steel forms from first to last casting. There are also a further number of bridges and tunnels where Costains are considering the adaptation of the 'Futura' panels as cladding units which would retain the theme and provide cost savings by maximising mould usage.
